Every woman dreams about how they are going to look as they walk down the aisle on their wedding day. There are so
many aspects of a bride’s look that make her beautiful, and one that is most important is your hair. For some, doing your hair every day may seem like a chore, and especially with the stress of the wedding, your hair may not always be on your mind. However, to get your dream come true look as you say I do, it is important to make your hair a priority during this crazy time. Working in a salon in the past, I can be the first to tell you, if you take a few simple steps and prepare in the right way, those locks of yours will be looking lovely on your big day!
Prior to your big day, if you don’t have one already, you need a concrete vision. Do you want an updo? All hair down? Curls? The list goes on and on, there are so many options for wedding day hair styles and only you know what you really want. Updo’s are perfect for when the dress you have picked out has details you would like to show off. And if you’re wearing your hair down, I suggest adding some curl or volume to it, you want to stand out! You also want to find a hairstyle that stays true to you! I suggest not trying to go over the top, you’ll stand out most by being confident and being yourself, and sometimes the shock of the drastic hairdo may leave you trying to hide behind your veil.
Next, this may sound silly, but to get the perfect hairdo you need to shop around! Just because you are loyal the stylist who cuts and colors your hair every few months, it does not mean she is your best bet to create your wedding day do. Get recommendations from friends and family, or seek out the right stylist for the look you want. Be sure to book a consultation and an appointment for your wedding day in advanced to make sure you lock in the right stylist and time slot.
It may sound strange, but the hair on your head is a complex thing. It is important to get to know your hair and what works best for you! This is why the beauty aspects of a wedding are important to figure out in advanced. Get motivated to get your hair in the best condition possible. You don’t want your hair to feel like straw ever, but if your hair is not healthy, it will affect how your wedding day do turns out. This does not have to be hard labor, use it as a chance to relax and pamper yourself! One thing I suggest is deep conditioning your hair weekly. There is a wide spectrum of deep conditioners available, pick one up from your local drug store or from your salon. One of my favorites is Aussie’s “Three Minute Miracle” and if you’re willing to spend a little more, pick up the hair mask made by “It’s a 10.” Another secret treasure is coconut oil. Yes, I said it coconut oil, like the kind you use in the kitchen. This may scare some of you with oily hair, but I’m telling you this product works wonders. Once a week I cover my hair in Trader Joe’s coconut oil and let it sit for about an hour, and I’m telling you, I have seen a huge difference in my hairs health! Another helpful hint to get the healthiest locks is to limit the amount of heat you are putting on your hair the months prior to your big day. This will also help drastically. Get your hair trimmed pretty regularly to avoid any split ends from forming. You need to customize your routine to your hair type. Try a variety of products and routines and find out what works best for you!
Now that your hair is healthy, closer to your wedding day is the time to be once again loyal to your normal stylist. A week or two before your wedding, go get your hair trimmed and colored the way you would like. Nothing drastic though, you don’t want people questioning who the woman is walking down the aisle. You also don’t want to make any drastic changes since most drastic changes can’t be reversed in a week, especially in the hair world.
Now that your big day is here, get excited! Don’t book your appointment for way earlier in the day than your wedding begins. I know there is a ton to do, but you want to make sure your hair stays in the best shape possible, and looks great all day. With that being said, don’t forget to go to your appointment in a button up shirt, or something that
won’t ruin your new do when it is time to get into your dress. I know you may be paranoid about your hair coming loose, but warn the stylist not to make your style too tight to avoid being uncomfortable or even giving you a headache! Now sit back, relax and let the stylist do her thing and your hair will be flawless in no time!
Lastly, add any hairpieces you wish and put on your veil! Be sure to keep some hairspray handy and don’t be afraid to use it as needed. I can promise you that you look beautiful, so be confident, feel beautiful, and enjoy your big day! Even after your I do’s are said, and your celebration is completed, you won’t want to take your lovely wedding day locks out of their hairstyle!
As Always, Happy Blogging 🙂
